There are tons of fashion exhibits currently in Paris, but which ones are worth seeing? Here is a list of some of the best exhibits I have seen while in the city.
Frida Kahlo
Frida Kahlo's exhibit in Paris is definitely a must while on your journey through the city. The exhibit walks you through her life and recounts some of her traumas she faced while growing up. You navigate through her life as she grows into an artist while you view her famous photographs and paintings. Her unique self was expressed through the way she dressed as she paid homage to her Mexican identity.
Alaïa
This unique exhibit is like one you have never seen, an echoey white chamber with walls covered in black and white text rise up from the ground. A closer look reveals skinny window panels with bright, white light coming through. Gowns eerily hang off of translucent mannequins, displaying beautiful and intricate pieces. Each piece has depth and an attitude that perhaps perfectly encapsulates Alaia himself.
Schiaparelli
The genius of Elsa Schiaparelli is put on display in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs. The powerful gold adorned dresses and decoration are a thrill to explore. Her unique interpretations are scattered throughout the dark rooms, the gold and shiny embellishments shine under the dim light. You can also see the dresses worn by celebrities in the 21st century like Lady Gaga, Bella Hadid, Tilda Swinton and Zendaya.
Yves Saint Laurent
Yves Saint Laurent's changed the fashion world's idea of femininity. In this exhibit, you are able to view all of his revolutionized women's wear through trousers and suits. He also had an obsession with gold and would use beautiful gold buttons, clips, chains and other various accessories to adorn his pieces.
Dior Galleries
Finally, my favorite exhibition, the Dior Gallery. The sheer amount of stunning pieces will take your breath way, each pieces more impressive than the next. The romantic and soft, feminine dresses are displayed each in a new environment, some in a dark room with plants and birds chirping or some in a large room surrounded by tons of other dresses. This collection was by far the most impressive and is the one I would recommend first when visiting the fashion capital of the world.
Let me know what you think!
